The car seat distribution and rental programs are designed to help low income families and other have access to right seat for every child at every age. Child car seats are available by appointment only.
Distribution Program
Through this program, car seats are made available to parents and legal guardians of children from birth until the child is ready to ride without a seat. There is no income qualification to purchase a seat through the program. Low income parents, including those who receive benefits through WIC, SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, Healthy Steps, and the Caring Program, can get one seat per child per stage for a reduced fee of $30.00 ($5.00 for backless boosters). Otherwise the seat can be purchased for $61.00 ($5.00 for backless boosters). Parents receiving a seat through the program view an excellent video to help with installing and adjusting the seat.
Short-term Rental Program
Short-term rentals are available for out-of-town visitors. The rental fee is $30.00 for up to four weeks ($5.00 for backless boosters). An appointment is needed to receive a seat through the rental program.
Various child car seats are available through this program
- Infant seats are used for newborns; these seats are used rear facing only.
- Convertible seats are used for infants and toddlers. These seats are used rear facing until the child reaches the maximum weight of the safety seat.
- High back booster seats are used forward facing only. These seats convert into booster seats after the child has reached the weight limit of the seat.
- Low back booster seats are used for children who weigh less than 80 pounds and under 4 feet 9 inches.
